I’ve been consistently photographing weddings for over three years now. The longer I do this, the less interested I become in the massive, over-planned days just to put on an impressive show for the guests in attendance. While the pandemic has certainly put a damper on large weddings, I’m loving the transition to smaller, more intimate days where the focus is truly on the bond and connection of the couple. If you’re thinking about a smaller ceremony or elopement, consider this your sign to look into it a little more.
Anna + Mason only had a handful of guests on their wedding day, just their ten closest family and friends, but that’s all they needed. Their ceremony was intimate at Chapel Dulcinea on the southwest side of Austin. After their ceremony, we wandered the property and documented their first hour as a newly married couple. Before we left, Mason and his new father-in-law pulled me into the whiskey distillery on the property where we sampled whiskey and tossed up a cheers to their future. After some photos at Chapel Dulcinea, we drove over to the beautiful Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to explore and take photos, while they told me more about their story.
If you’re planning a wedding, my advice to you is to make sure you’re doing this for you. It’s easy to fall into the trap of planning a wedding for your family and friends because you want them to have a good time, but remember that if you’re having the time of your life, they will too.
